【2015高考复习】阅读理解

Does stress cause gray hair? Many people believe that tension and stress can cause your hair to lose its color. In fact,it is an_old_wives’_tale that being upset all the time can result in premature graying. Here is a closer look at this situation and why some believe that this old wives’ tale could be true.

As one ages, the hairs on the head also age.In fact, just about everything on the human body begins to show signs of wear and tear after a while. The joints wear and become stiff and skin wears and becomes wrinkled.Hairs on the head grow and eventually die. They are replaced, but in the process something else happens.

When new hairs are replaced, the color or pigment (色素) is also added to them. However,as one ages, this pigment becomes less and less available. At first, hairs will have a limited amount of pigment and they will appear to be grayish in color. In time, they will lose all of their pigment and will be white. Many things are known to cause graying, and genetics is a very powerful factor. If one of your parents turns gray at an early age, there is a good chance that you will too. Some people begin the graying process in high school, while others may be over the age of forty.

Constant worry and tension can have many harmful effects on the human body.It is a known fact that stressful times can cause one to suffer hair loss.It would make sense that if it can cause these problems, perhaps it also may contribute to graying. However, there is no sound evidence to support this.

On the other hand, many medical professionals believe that there may be a link between graying and a constant state of anxiety or tension.Does stress cause gray hair? There is no scientific evidence to support the theory, but it is best to avoid stressful situations.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A.B.C和D项中,选出最佳选项。

Chocolate soap is supposed to be good for the skin. But it’s not so good for the tongue. Unfortunately for the US soldiers of World War II, the chocolate bars the army gave them tasted like they were intended for use in the bath.

In the army’s defense, it wasn’t trying to win any cooking awards. In fact, it specifically ordered that its chocolate bars not be too delicious, so soldiers wouldn’t eat them too quickly. These bars were created for survival, not taste. “They were awful,” John Otto, a former army captain in World War II said. “They were big, thick things, and they weren’t any good. I tried ’em, but I had to be awful hungry after I tried them once.”

As unappealing as the chocolate bars were to some, others liked them. Samuel Hinkle, the chemist who created the chocolate bars, pointed out that the number of bars made were far greater than the army needed. “It soon became obvious that the generous American soldiers were sharing their valued possessions with their foreign friends, whether soldiers of other countries or local citizens.”

The bars turned many hungry Europeans into friends of the United States. “People wanted them,” said Otto. “You’d give them to kids. In some places they were very hungry. And they sure helped relax people about American soldiers.” Otto said he never saw a European turn his or her nose up at the chocolate. “It was food,” he said. “At that time, everyone was very hungry. I saw German kids standing outside the U.S. army kitchen. They weren’t begging, just standing there very politely. When we were done, the kids would eat the food out of the garbage. They were that hungry.”

Other Europeans did not see chocolate until well after the war ended. “We didn’t

see any Americans where I was,” said Elizabeth Radsma, who was 25 years old when the Germans occupied her country, the Netherlands. “Even after the war, we saw only English. Maybe the Americans gave out some chocolate in the big cities, but we were only in a small town. Before the British, we saw only German soldiers. But chocolate? Don’t make me laugh! Maybe in my dreams!”

A soldier in the field might have responded “Be careful what you wish for” — and then gratefully bit down on a chocolate bar, the only food available for miles.

1. What was the American soldiers’ attitude towards the chocolate bars?

A. They were delicious.

B. They tasted awful.

C. They were necessary for survival.

D. Too many of them were produced.

2. Which of the following is true according to the passage?

A. The US soldiers used the chocolate bars as bath soap.

B. The US soldiers did not have enough food during World War II.

C. The US army produced more chocolate bars than necessary for its soldiers.

D. European people regretted eating chocolate bars from the US soldiers.

3. The underlined expression “turn his or her nose up at” probably means ________.

A. reject B. demand C. receive D. smell

4. Why does the author mention the German kids’ story?

A. To tell how friendly the American soldiers were.

B. To describe the hunger in post-war Germany.

C. To prove German kids could be very polite.

D. To show how much they were eager for chocolates.

5. Elizabeth Radsma never saw chocolate during the war because _________.

A. the US soldiers handed out all of them to people in big cities

B. the German soldiers kept them all for themselves

C. the British soldiers didn’t share them with the local people

D. the US soldiers never showed up in the small town she lived in

【天津市2014高考英语六校第三次联考试题】

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

As demand for power and fuel grows steadily in the coming decades, we must consider every possible energy source on hand if we're to meet the world's needs. And because clean natural gas is found in great plenty, there is little doubt that it will play a major role on the world energy stage in this century, much like oil did in the last. But, like oil, gas reserves are concentrated in just a few places in the world, usually far from where they're needed most. And that's only part of the challenge. The world has had well over 100 years to search for oil and to build the necessary facilities to bring it to market; the natural gas facilities, particularly when it comes to liquefied(液化)natural gas(LNG), are not nearly as developed.

So what needs to be done? On the supply side, producing nations need policies that allow for better development of their natural gas in an open, stable business environment, not one in which the rules of the game change without warning. The governments of consuming nations, on the other hand, must make policies for

sustainable(可持续的)development to ensure they'll have enough supplies in the future. That means building the related facilities, including LNG stations. This, in turn, will require coastal areas to allow these necessary, but not necessarily pretty, facilities to be built in their backyards. And energy companies have a responsibility to be good neighbors in those areas by operating these facilities responsibly and safely. They must also continue to put in the billions of dollars needed to build the complex transport and storage facilities required to bring more gas to market. Expanding and diversifying(使多样化)energy sources by using more natural gas could lead to lower fuel prices and to greater energy security. We've taken some of the steps to get started, but we need your help to get the rest of the way.

41. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A. Gas played a major part in the 20th century.

Tony Blair, former Prime Minister of Britain, would not have felt excited over Oxford’s intention to offer him an honorary doctor’s degree had he known it were later to be taken back.

The story should begin from a girl called Catherine Lisa Bell.

Catherine Lisa Bell was a girl from a remote mountain area. She was the first graduate in that area to reach Oxford’s entry score, but her application was refused in the interview, because the professors thought she lacked creative potential.

The government of the girl’s hometown paid a special visit to Minister of Education and asked him to speak for her to Oxford. The Minister called at Oxford and hoped they would give the girl special admission. Quite unexpectedly, however, his pleading was refused. The Minister turned to the deputy prime minister, but he got turned down as well. The deputy prime minister couldn’t help but turn to Prime Minister Blair. Blair telephoned to Oxford himself to show his personal attention to the matter. He tried his best to persuade the university officials to change their decision, only to be greeted with a declaration from Oxford: “We admit that Prime Minster’s proposal comes out of concern for the students from less developed areas, but it is unacceptable. There is but one reason: On matters of enrolment (招生), no one has the right to change the interview conclusion the professors draw. This is hundreds of years of tradition of Oxford.”

Feeling a loss of face, Blair complained in private that Oxford was too stiff (古板) and needed reforming. Famous people have no privacy (隐私). The complaint soon found its way to the

teachers and students of Oxford and aroused great anger among them. Immediately the university cancelled the plan to give Blair an honorary doctorate and delivered a strong protest against government intervention (干涉) on university affairs.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A.B.C和D项中,选出最佳选项。

Do you want to live with a strong sense of peacefulness, happiness, goodness, and self-respect? The collection of happiness actions broadly categorized(把…归类) as "honor" help you create this life of good feelings.

Here's an example to show how honorable actions create happiness.

Say a store clerk fails to charge us for an item. If we keep silent, and profit from the clerk's mistake, we would drive home with a sense of sneaky(卑鄙的) excitement. Later we might tell our family or friends about our good fortune. On the other hand, if we tell the clerk about the uncharged item, the clerk would be grateful and thank us for our honesty. We would leave the store with a quiet sense of honor that we might never share with another soul.

Then, what is it to do with our sense of happiness?

In the first case, where we don't tell the clerk, a couple of things would happen. Deep down

inside we would know ourselves as a type of thief. In the process, we would lose some peace of mind and self-respect. We would also demonstrate(演示) that we cannot be trusted, since we advertise our dishonor by telling our family and friends. We damage our own reputations by telling others. In the clerk knows us to be honorable. Upon leaving the store, we feel honorable and our self-respect is increased. Whenever we take honorable action we gain the deep internal rewards of goodness and a sense of nobility.

There is a beautiful positive cycle that is created by living a life of honorable actions. Honorable thoughts lead to honorable actions. Honorable actions lead us to a happier existence. And it's easy to think and act honorably again when we're happy. While the positive cycle can be difficult to start, once it's started, it's easy to continue. Keeping on doing good deeds brings us peace of mind, which is important for our happiness.

1. According to the passage, the positive action in the example contributes to our_______.

A. self-respect B. financial rewards C. advertising ability D. friendly relationship

2. The author thinks that keeping silent about the uncharged item is equal to_______.

A. lying B. stealing C. cheating D. advertising

3. The underlined phrase "bringing the error to the clerk's attention" means_______.

A. telling the truth to the clerk B. offering advice to the clerk

C. asking the clerk to be more attentive D. reminding the clerk of the charged item

4. How will we feel if we let the clerk know her mistake?

A. We'll be very excited. B. We'll feel unfortunate.

C. We'll have a sense of honor. D. We'll feel sorry for the clerk.

5 Which of the following can be the best title of this passage?

A. How to Live Truthfully B. Importance of Peacefulness

C. Ways of Gaining Self-respect D. Happiness through Honorable Actions

For many parents, raising a teenager is like fighting a long war, but years go by without any

clear winner. Like a border conflict between neighboring countries, the parent-teen war is about boundaries: Where is the line between what I control and what you do?

Both sides want peace, but neither feels it has any power to stop the conflict. In part, this is

because neither is willing to admit any responsibility for starting it. From the parents’ point of view, the only cause of their fight is their adolescents’ complete unreasonableness. And of course, In this article, I’ll describe three no-win situations that commonly arise between teens and

parents and then suggest some ways out of the trap. The first no-win situation is quarrels over unimportant things. Examples include the color of the teen’s hair, the cleanliness of the bedroom, the preferred style of clothing, the child’s failure to eat a good breakfast before school or his

To Friend or Not To Friend

We all love our parents and turn to them when we’re in need, but would you like them to hear the conversations you have with your friends on the school playground or lunch queue? Social networking sites have become extensions of the school hallways, so would you add your parents as “friends” and allow them to view your online activities and conversations with friends?

In the past the generation gap included a technology gap, where children were up to date with latest technology and parents were left behind, content to continue their day to day lives as they always had because they had no need to know more about technology. However, more and more parents are beginning to realize just how important social networks are in their lives. This realization has given many parents the motivation to education themselves about social networking sites.

These days many people are attracted to social networking sites because they can choose who they have around them; there’s also a certain amount of control over privacy that we don’t get in real life. Sometimes we feel that privacy is violated when we must accept a “friend” request from a parent or family member.

It’s a difficult choice whether or not to allow a parent to become a part of our online lives. On the one hand we don’t want to “reject” their request because that might hurt their feelings or make them feel you have something to hide. On the other hand if you do accept, then you could have a sense of being watched and no longer feel free to comment or communicate the way you did before.

A recent survey suggested that parents shouldn’t take it personally if their child ignores their request, “When a teen ignores a parent’s friend request, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are hiding something, but it could mean that this is one part of their life where they want to be independent.”

Perhaps talking with parents and giving explanations would help soften the blow if you do choose not to add them to your friends list.

57. From Paragraph 2, we learn that _______.

A. parents feel secure about their privacy online

B. social networks successfully fill the generation gap{2017广安中考英语作文范文}.

C. parents have realized the importance of social networks

D. social networks offer a platform for parents to communicate

58. Teenagers may refuse a parent’s friend request because _______.

A. they hide something from their parents

B. they are unwilling to be watched by parents

C. their parents tend to fall behind in technology

D. their parents make negative comments on them

59. The passage is mainly about _______.

A. privacy online B. social networks

C. the generation gap D. parents’ friend requests

60. The passage is written mainly for _______.

A. parents B. teenagers C. teachers D. researchers

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A.B.C和D项中,选出最佳选项。 A different sort of generation gap is developing in the workplace. Someone --- specifically the father-daughter team of Larry and Meagan Johnson --- has figured out that on some American job sites, five generations are working side by side.

In their new book about generations in the workplace the pair argue that while such an age difference adds a lot of texture and a variety of life experiences, it can also bring tensions and conflicts.

The Johnsons are human-resource trainers and public speakers. Dad Larry is a former health-care executive; daughter Meagan is a onetime high-level sales manager. Here are the oldest and youngest of the five generations they identify:

They call the oldest group Traditionals, born before 1945. They were heavily influenced by the lessons of the Great Depression and World War Two. They respect authority, set a high standard of workmanship, and communicate easily and confidently. But they’re also stubbornly independent. They want their opinions heard.

At the other extreme are what the Johnsons call Linksters, born after 1995 into today’s more complicated, multi-media world. They live and breathe technology and are often social activists.

You won’t find many 15-year olds in the offices of large companies, except as volunteers, of course, but quite old and quite young workers do come together in sales environments like bike shops and ice-cream stores.

The Johnsons, Larry and Meagan, represent a generation gap themselves in their work with jobsite issues. The Johnsons’ point is that as the average lifespan continues to rise and retirement dates get delayed because of the tight economy, people of different generations are working side by side, more often bringing with them very different ideas about company loyalty and work values.

The five generations are heavily influenced by quite different events, social trends, and the cultural phenomena of their times. Their experiences shape their behavior and make it difficult, sometimes, for managers to achieve a strong and efficient workplace. Larry and Meagan Johnson discuss all this in greater detail in a new book, “Generations, Inc.: From Boomers to Linksters --- Managing the Friction Between Generations at Work,” published by Amacom Press, which is available in all good bookstore from this Friday.

1. The type of generation gap in paragraph 1 refers to the difference in beliefs ________.

A. between managers and workers B. among family members

C. among employees D. between older and newer companies

2. Which of the following statements is NOT true about Traditionals?

A. They’ve learned much from war and economic disaster.

B. They’re difficult to work with as they are stubborn.

C. They respect their boss and hope to be respected.

D. They’re independent workers with great confidence.

3. According to the passage, the Linksters are usually ________.

A. found working in the offices of large companies
