If you speak to Benjamin K.hammer on the phone, you would think you were talking to a person who had lived in a Chinese-speaking environment since childhood, as he uses Mandarin‟s four tones correctly.

But Hammer started learning Mandarin when he was a high school senior in San Jose,California. Since there were no Chinese-related courses at his high school in the 1990s, Hammer studied Mandarin in a community school‟s night classes.

⑤正在那雌鸳鸯命系一发之际，雄鸳鸯不逃窜了。它一下子游到了雌鸳鸯前面，张开双翅，勇敢地扇打俯冲下来的苍鹰，结果苍鹰的第二次袭击也没成功。那苍鹰似乎急眼了，也似乎饿急了，飞上空中，又进行第三次攫捉。而雄鸳鸯，那美丽的、除了被人观赏外几乎毫无可取之处的水鸟，也又一次飞离水面，用显然处于弱势的双翅扇打苍鹰的利爪，拼死保卫它的雌鸳鸯。力量悬殊的战斗，就这么接二连三地展开了。

⑥令冯先生更加看呆了的是，塘岸上的一对天鹅，仿佛产生维护正义的冲动，它们又一齐伸展开了双翅，扑入塘中，加入了保卫战。在它们的带动之下，那些野鸭呀鹭鸶呀，便都不再恐惧，先后参战。水塘里一时间情况大乱……

⑦待冯先生不再发呆，冲出别墅，战斗已经结束。苍鹰一无所获，不知去向。水面上，羽毛零落一片，有鹰的，也有那些水鸟的……那只雄鸳鸯就惨了，遍体 伤，两只眼睛也瞎了。

⑧到了秋季，冯先生的水塘里增添了一道使人好奇的风景——那只雌鸳鸯，将它的一只翅膀，轻轻地搭在雄鸳鸯的身上，缓缓地，缓缓地，在塘中游来游去，俨然一对臂挽着臂散步的恋人。

⑩更令人 然心动的是——塘中的其他水鸟，包括两只气质高贵的天鹅，已和那对鸳鸯相向游着了，都自觉地给那对鸳鸯让路，仿佛那是不言而喻之事，仿佛那就是塘中的文明准则。尤其那一对天鹅，当它们让路时，每每曲颈，将它们的头低低地俯下，一副 敬的姿态。

早在上世纪的俄国，《变色龙》中的趋炎附势的警长就因他对待平民的狗和将军的狗的双重标准而忙于见风使舵，实则狗终究是一条狗，是人为添加的标签使这个故事变得滑稽万分。当我们为之忍俊不禁时，是否在有意无意中成为了另一个一视不同仁的“双标”人呢？

“双标”本无可厚非。孔夫子三千弟子，赞昼寝的宰予为“善辞”，却对其他更发奋精进的弟子吝于溢美之词。若拿千篇一律的标准衡量三千高足，那我们现在看到的“孔门十哲”恐怕是十个颜回，或者十个子贡了，何来百花争妍之芳菲，因材施教之春风？“单标”如僵硬的模具，塑造千人一面的工艺品，唯有“双标”，鼓励野蛮但茁壮地成长。

是否一用“双标”则天下太平，万事无虞？但也不尽然，这双重标准必须是公平地烘托两种声音，两种形态，而非为了凸显其一而捧杀另一种声音，另一种形态。晏殊对待两个女婿的双重标准：一个清粥闲话，一个酒肉丝竹，是出于对两位女婿人品和性情的考量，不似现实社会中的某些人，钱字当头，利字为先，一切待人接物的标准围绕权、财转。这种“双标”，与隐而不发的歧视又有何差异？正如南北战争消弭了肤色“双标”，女权运动推翻了性别“双标”，这类出于个人利益、喜好考量而有所倾斜的双重标准，只会阻止更包容、更进步的视角，最终也将被历史的辘辘车轮所辗轧。
