How Time Travel Works
From millennium-skipping Victorians to phone booth-hopping teenagers, the term time travel often summons our most fantastic visions of what it means to move through the fourth dimension. But of course you don’t need a time machine or a fancy wormhole to jaunt through the years.
As you’ve probably noticed, we’re all constantly engaged in the act of . At its most basic level, time is the rate of change in the universe -- and like it or not, we are constantly undergoing change. We age, the planets move around the sun, and things fall apart.
We measure the passage of time in seconds, minutes, hours and years, but this doesn’t mean time flows at a constant rate. Just as the water in a river rushes or slows depending on the size of the channel, time flows at different rates in different places. In other words, time is relative.
But what causes this fluctuation along our one-way trek from the cradle to the grave? It all comes down to the relationship between time and space. Human beings frolic about in the three spatial dimensions of length, width and depth. Time joins the party as that most crucial . Time can’t exist without space, and space can’t exist without time. The two exist as one: the . Any event that occurs in the universe has to involve both space and time.
Time Travel Into the Future If you want to advance through the years a little faster than the next person, you’ll need to exploit space-time. Global positioning pull this off every day, accruing an extra third-of-a-billionth of a second daily. Time passes faster in orbit, because satellites are farther away from the mass of the Earth. Down here on the surface, the planet’s mass drags on time and slows it down in small measures.
We call this effect gravitational time dilation. According to Einstein’s theory of general relativity, gravity is a curve in space-time and astronomers regularly observe this phenomenon when they study light moving near a sufficiently massive object. Particularly large suns, for instance, can cause an otherwise straight beam of light to curve in what we call the gravitational lensing effect.
What does this have to do with time? Remember: Any event that occurs in the universe has to involve both space and time. Gravity doesn’t just pull on space; it also pulls on time.
You wouldn’t be able to notice minute changes in the flow of time, but a sufficiently massive object would make a huge difference -- say, like the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A at the center of our galaxy. Here, the mass of 4 million suns exists as a single, infinitely dense point, known as a singularity [source: NASA]. Circle this
black hole for a while (without falling in) and you’d experience time at half the Earth rate. In other words, you’d round out a five-year journey to discover an entire decade had passed on Earth [source: Davies].
Speed also plays a role in the rate at which we experience time. Time passes more slowly the closer you approach the unbreakable cosmic speed limit we call the speed of light. For instance, the hands of a clock in a speeding train move more slowly than those of a stationary clock. A human passenger wouldn’t feel the difference, but at the end of the trip the speeding clock would be slowed by billionths of a second. If such a train could attain 99.999 percent of light speed, only one year would pass onboard for every 223 years back at the train station [source: Davies].
In effect, this hypothetical commuter would have traveled into the future. But what about the past? Could the fastest starship imaginable turn back the clock?
Time Travel Into the Past We’ve established that into the future happens all the time. Scientists have proven it in experiments, and the idea is a fundamental aspect of Einstein’s theory of . You’ll make it to the future; it’s just a question of how fast the trip will be. But what about travel into the past? A glance into the night sky should supply an answer.
The Milky Way galaxy is roughly 100,000 light-years wide, so light from its more distant stars can take thousands upon thousands of years to reach Earth. 一、问题的提出
在我的英语教学中,我发现学生不管是课堂还是课后,作业的质量明显下降,有的学生开始“忘”做作业,“忘”带本子、少做或漏做作业,各种各样的现象层出不穷,家庭作业方面事态更是严峻,学生没有自觉性,而多数家长又没有时间和耐心陪同,他们对待孩子一是威逼,二则利诱。威逼无非是威胁吓唬,甚者拳脚相向;利诱则多是许以各种食物、玩具等好处。软硬兼施下,终于完成了作业。这引起了我的思考:究竟是什么原因使学生不能自愿愉快地完成作业呢?
作为一名英语教师,对于学生不做作业的现象早已屡见不鲜,很多时候老师都为此伤神无奈。但我认为这决不是一个简单的问题,一周2节英语课,因为学生课后没有有效的语言环境,不能及时与人沟通交流,所以只能通过课堂练习和作业来加深理解和记忆,如果作业不做或没有认真做完,就达不到课后复习巩固单词和课文的预期效果,教师也不能及时得到反馈信息。长此以往,日积月累,学生越学越难,越学越厌学,不但不能养成按时完成作业的习惯,而且会影响一学期的学习成绩。学习成绩不高,也会使这个学生在其他方面的成长受到不良影响。为此我想在这方面有所尝试。
二、研究时间、对象、内容、
1. 研究时间:2011年6月9月

3. 研究内容:每天根据当天学习内容布置课堂作业和回家作业。
三、预期目标:保质保量地完成家庭作业
四、研究措施
(一)、思考出现问题的原因:
学生不能按时完成作业,究其原因,大致有以下几个方面:
1、对于本门课程不重视,不感兴趣,没有放心上。
2、每天的回家作业没有及时抄好。
3、懒惰心理,就是不想动手动脑。
4、家长忙于工作或生活,疏忽了学生的学习和课外辅导。
5、作业题不会做。因为不会,又不知道问别的同学,所以左碾右转,拖延时间。
6、写字、句的速度太慢。不会记忆整个题目和句子,看一个字,写一下,大大延长了作业时间。
7、注意力不集中。心思不定,写一会儿,就要东瞅西望,看看前排同学做什么,看看邻桌做什么,总之,就是不能一门心思地写作业。
8、没责任感、任务感。因为从小娇生惯养,一些学生没责任感,任凭你怎么说,他依旧我行我素,写作业只慢不快。
(二)、相应措施:
1 、做好思想工作,让学生明确做好作业是应该的,也是必须的。 2 、制订奖惩措施,对于不交或多次拖拉的适度惩罚。
3 、抽查家庭作业本,查看是否完整。
4 、及时与家长联系,家校同努力促其好习惯形成。
5 、布置形式多样,学生喜欢的作业。避免重复多次抄写等形式。 6 、布置作业时,考虑到他们的情况,作业量适当。
(三)、取得的效果和出现的问题:
学生做作业的完成率基本上是100%了,但还是有少做的现象。特别是我布置的抄写单词和句子,有部分学生漏抄。
(四)、准备如何解决:
提高奖励:连续获得作业等级高的或满一定次数的可以少做作业或免做作业,培养好学生的作业习惯
五、结果与分析
为了记录学生完成作业情况,我为学习小组长每人准备了一个记录本,每次记录下组员完成作业情况,每周向我报告一次,我也专门用了一个练习本,统计一周内完成作业的情况和次数,并与上周对比。经过两个月的努力,四(2)班不自觉完成作业的比例从刚开始的十几人,降低至现在的一两人。由于不自觉人数的减少,一些附带现象也少了,如,把作业忘在家中,本子不见了,本子破损等等现象都大大减少。

学生不按时完成作业,交作业难,作业书写差,错误多等一系列的问题一直困扰着教师。常常感觉自己像个讨债的,忙于向学生追讨作业。每次的作业情况总是让我非常的生气。特别是看到那些补交回来的像鬼画符一样的作业,是我头疼不堪。为什么学生的作业情况会如此糟糕呢?怎样才能让学生认真地按时完成作业呢?

我曾尝试把他们留下来,补作未完成的作业,可是效果不佳。第二天,他们还是不交。我曾打电话给他们的家长,要求家长帮忙督促孩子完成作业,可还有些偷工减料。我曾要他们在午读时间完成作业,可他们只在午读短短的20分钟做作业,剩下的又不做了„„种种办法,仍不能改变学生欠交作业,作业质量不高的状况。我不禁自问,作业太多了吗,太难了吗?可是我问过班里的大部分同学,他们都说不多,不难啊。
有一次,我把一个平时很乖但是没有写按时写作业的学生叫到了办公室,问他到底是为什么没有按时交作业,学生跟我说:“老师,我今天抄一半,明天再抄一半,行吗?因为我抄得很慢,而且字不好看?”我不禁一愣,然后微笑着说:“可以,不过要准时认真完成!”他忙答应说:“可以,可以!”这次的谈话给了我很大的启示,感觉自己找到了解决交作业难这个问题的症结。班内有优生有差生,有写字快的,有写字慢的,学生的情况不一样,我应该针对不同的学生情况因材施教,于是我决定这样做。
1、可以给学生一点适当的作业选择权,让他们按自己的能力选择适当的作业。
2、适当的降低作业的难度,尽量的找一些本节课的重点难点相关的经典题目进行联系。少出现多遍重复抄写单词和句子的情况。
3、变化作业的形式可以吸引学生的兴趣,让他们在新鲜感中完成大同小异的作业,从而达到提高作业质量的效果。
对于书写不规整错误多的学生,严格认真地批改他们的作业及改错。同时在教学时对于书写及格式的要求要时时刻刻提醒,反反复复强调,长此以往学生不自主地就记住了。对于教师,我要以身作则,在教学中始终保持书写认真,并坚持书写的示范。
4、看到学生的进步及时的给予表扬,适当的进行奖励。
5、挑选几名负责人的学习组长,及时检查作业,按时收取记录没有交作业学生的名单,督促他们完成作业。
良好的学习习惯可以让一个人受益终生,小学生正处在习惯形成的阶段,需要在教师的教导和家长的督促下慢慢形成良好的学习习惯,为以后的学习和工作打下基础。按时交作业,认真完成作业可以帮助学生养成做事认真负责的生活态度。相信我的学生能够很快改掉作业拖拉的毛病,准时交作业,每本作业都是书写规范整齐。

尊敬的英语老师:
那天晚上,我(叙述你发生了什么事情,不管你是参加葬礼还是贪玩),开始做作业时已经十分晚了,我做了几样作业后便想睡觉,于是就萌生了明天早上起来补作业的念头(最后写第二天也没补)
我知道我这样做是不对的,无论忙到多晚,一定要写完老师布置的作业。作业是我们学习情况的反馈,作业是老师汗水的结晶。我们理应当珍惜这来之不易的机会去努力完成作业。而我却辜负了老师,辜负了自己的前程。为了享一时之快而放弃学习的时机,这是我对自己人生不负责任的表现,所以我一定不允许自己再发生这样的情况...
其实,作业是给自己写的,不是给老师写的。从小学起老师就教育我们要写作业,告诉我们上了初中,老师就不怎么查作业了,要凭自觉;后来到了初中,老师告诉我们要写作业,说以后上了高中老师就基本不查作业了,必须自觉。后来到了高中,说实话,我觉得高中查作业要比初中和小学严格多了。老师总说学习时给自己学的,不是给父母,更不是给老师,而作业也是一个道理。那为何老师要查作业呢?难道作业是给老师写的?难道学习是给老师学的?……后来我知道了。
其实,处于青春期的我们,渴望自由,渴望那种无束缚的生活,我常常思考,写作业时对自己好,可以查漏补缺。我总认为作业应该引人而宜,选择适合自己的对自己好的做,老师的参与可能会影响或是破坏一种好的氛围。可是后来我不这样想了。
其实,我常常被老师查作业这一现象弄得很郁闷,说实话,我觉得这种教育方式并不先进,或是太陈旧了。这样的方式是有可能对学生造成一些心理上的影响。其实表面和本质是两个不同的概念。但后来我改变了思想。后来我明白很多道理,作业的确是给自己做的,而老师这样做是在监督我们给自己写。
在一个班里,每个人学习情况都不一样,如果不选作业做,而是按照老师留的作业一一完成,好处可能会比较小,但百分之百没有坏处。作为我们,并不是老师适应我们,而是我们适应老师,老师数十年的教学经验告诉我们:老师不会害我们的。
在不知不觉中,我们的学习得到了进步时,又有谁会想到这与老师每天魔鬼式的辛苦的查作业有关。在不知不觉中,我们养成了不忘事,对上级的安排得到重视的好习惯,又有谁会想到高中的班主任章老师那日复一日,年复一年的辛苦为查作业奔波。当我们长大有了自己的孩子,当自己的孩子因为不写作业被请了我们过去时,可曾想到高中时有一位章老师日日月月的为我们辛苦劳累。伟大的老师,谁知道她脸上的皱纹为我们而起。
我对此事万分抱歉,再次作深刻检讨,望老师原谅,也望得到自己良心的饶恕。

上个星期三,您给我们布置了一份关于英语小作文的作业,目的是为了让我们更好的理解和记忆所要学习的英语的课程,但是我却没有理解老师的一片苦心,对此我向老师表示深深的歉意。

1、思想觉悟不高,对重要事项重视严重缺乏与不足。就算是有认识,也没能在行动上真正地实行起来。
2、思想觉悟不高的根本原因是因为我自己对他人的尊重的不足。试想,如果我对老师有更深一层的尊重,我就会按时完成老师教代的每项作业与任务,决不会使老师对我产生失望。
3.上课时,总不能按时到位,总是迟到。不过,在闹钟的督促下,这几天,我已能准时到位,没有迟到。
根据以上几点不足,我决定有如下个人整改,与改正错误的措施:
1、按照老师要求缴纳保质保量的检讨书一份!对自己的思想上的错误,根源进行深层的挖掘与细心寻找的整理,并认清我没有做作业有可能造成的严重后果。
2、制定这个学期的英语的学习计划,每天都要认真完成老师交给我们的每项作业。
3.和同学们加强沟通,争取能够提高自己的思维能力,与奥数的成绩。
请老师看我今后的表现,我保证不再出现上述错误。所以,我申请能够继续在英语班学习,就算能够当个旁听者也可以。所以,我下一次一定不会再犯没做作业的这种错误。如果再出现一次,我就自觉退出英语班,决不再说什么。
