Imagine, if you will, a gift. I'd like for you to picture it in your mind. It's not too big -- about the size of a golf ball. So envision what it looks like all wrapped up. But before I show you what's inside, I will tell you, it's going to do incredible things for you. It will bring all of your family together. You will feel loved and appreciated like never before and reconnect with friends and acquaintances you haven't heard from in years. Adoration and admiration will overwhelm you. It will recalibrate what's most important in your life.

It will redefine your sense of spirituality and faith. You'll have a new understanding and trust in your body. You'll have unsurpassed vitality and energy. You'll expand your vocabulary, meet new people, and you'll have a healthier lifestyle. And get this, you'll have an eight-week vacation of doing absolutely nothing. You'll eat countless gourmet meals. Flowers will arrive by the truckload. People will say to you, "You look great. Have you had any work done?" And you'll have a lifetime supply of good drugs.

You'll be challenged, inspired, motivated and humbled. Your life will have new meaning. Peace, health, serenity, happiness, nirvana. The price? $55,000. And that's an incredible deal.

By now I know you're dying to know what it is and where you can get one. Does Amazon carry it? Does it have the Apple logo on it? Is there a waiting list? Not likely. This gift came to me about five months ago. It looked more like this when it was all wrapped up -- not quite so pretty. And this. And then this. It was a rare gem, a brain tumor, hemangioblastoma, the gift that keeps on giving.

And while I'm okay now, I wouldn't wish this gift for you. I'm not sure you'd want it. But I wouldn't change my experience. It profoundly altered my life in ways I didn't expect in all the ways I just shared with you.

So the next time you're faced with something that's unexpected, unwanted and uncertain, consider that it just may be a gift.

演讲稿TheBestGiftWeCanGivetoOthers

The Best Gift We Can Give Others is… Ladies and gentleman, good (morning). I’m so glad to stand here and give you this speech. My speech topic is the best “gift” we can give others is…… It is obviously that different people have different ideas. In my opinion, as for parents, the best gift we can give to them may not be good grades or beautiful appearance, but a healthy body and a happy life. Because in our parents’ eyes, we are the biggest treasures for them in the world. If we are sad, they will try their best to comfort us and give their all to us, without caring whether it would cost. As for friends, they are our companies. So, our care is the best gifts for them. If our friends are unhappy, what we should do firstly is to be a good listener. What’s more, To listen to others is the best way to give them respect and praise. Except parents and friends, there are still many people who care and love us. So, what is the best gift we can give to such people? The best word in my mind is trust. Based on the trust, people can work together, study together, play together and do many other things together. Finally, I want to say, whatever you give to others, if the thing contains your kindly feelings, it is exactly the best gift. All above is my speech. Thank you!

Opportunities and Challenges

First, I would like to know, what does your destiny offer you? Happiness, wisdom, a strong body or something else. If I had asked this question to president Nixon, he would probably had said,”Our destiny offers not the cup of despair, but the chalice of opportunity.” Needless to say, one of the biggest opportunities given to China is the 2008 Olympic Games. Till now, we have used two sevenths of the preparation time. How much changes have you seen? New roads, new subway lines, public-exercising equipments with beautiful colors, large blocks of grass fields, and also lots of modern gyms which are under construction.

Other than those, there are even more good effects brought to us by the Olympic Games that cannot be seen directly. For example, more and more people will get to know China. I’m sure the mysterious Chinese culture will attract them strongly. And the games will also do good to the economy and environment, for it is gaining the attention of foreign investors and the awareness of environmental protection is being strengthened. What is more, Olympic Games give a unique opportunity to inspire and educate a new generation of Chinese youth with the Olympic values and the Olympic spirit. Now that we have seen so many advances, could you even imagine us losing the holding rights? I’ve already said a lot about the Olympics and China. But I think everyone should use some time to think of this question, ”Does the Olympic Games have any special meaning to you?”

For us, I mean the Chinese youth, 2008 Olympic Games is a tremendous gift. Because what we are waiting for is to do something significant as repaying the love given to us .The society is just like a ship, and in our dreams the captain is waving his hand and saying ”Hey! Come here and take the helm! ”How charming his voice is, but we have never heard of it in our true life. This morning, however, when we wake up, we will see the Olympic Games waving its hand. After chewing, most of us will have at least one plan about what to do for the Olympic Games. And mine is to be a “comforter” ----that is someone who will give comfort to others.

At the end of my speech, I hope all the preparation will go well, and everyone will show their ability to the world. Let us seize opportunities and give a big smile to challenges.{aspecialgift

China has its own sport legends. Back to Song Dynasty, People started to play a game called Cuju, which is regarded as the origin of Ancient football. So now, you will understand why our women football team is so good today.

With a concept inspired by the famed Silk Road, our Torch Relay will break new ground, traveling from Olympia through some of the oldest civilizations known to man-Greek, Indian and Chinese. Carrying the message “Share the peace, Share the Olympics. “ The flame will pass through Tibet, cross the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, Travel the Great Wall and visit Taiwan and the 56 Ethnic communities who make up our society. On its journey, the flame will be seen by and inspire more human beings than any previous relay.

I am afraid I cannot prevent the whole picture of our cultural programs within such a short period of time. Actually, what we have shown you here today is only a fraction of Beijing that awaits you. Ladies and gentlemen, I believe that Beijing will prove to be a land of wonders to athletes, spectators and the worldwide television audience alike. Come and join us.

Thank you. Thank you all.

Never give up

Nothing is difficult if you put your heart on it. Nothing is easy if you don’t try your best.

We often hear people say, “Never give up.” This can be encouraging words and words of determination. A person who believes in them will keep trying to reach his goal no matter how many times he fails. In my opinion, the quality of determination to succeed is an important one to have. Therefore, I believe that we should never give up.

One reason is that if we give up too easily, we will rarely achieve anything. It is not unusual for us to fail in our first attempt at something new, so we should not feel discouraged and should try again. Besides, if we always give up when we fail, we will not be able to develop new skills and grow as people. Another reason we should never give up is that we can learn from our mistakes only if we make a new effort. If we do not try again, the lesson we have learned is wasted. Finally, we should never give up because as we work to reach our goals, we develop confidence, and this confidence can help us succeed in other areas of our lives.

Probably the greatest example of persistence is Abraham Lincoln. Born into poverty, Lincoln was faced with defeat throughout his life. He lost eight elections, twice failed in business and suffered a nervous breakdown.

He could have quit many times - but he didn't and because he didn't quit, he became one of the greatest presidents in the history of our country.

Lincoln was a champion and he never gave up.

In short, it is important that we don’t give up when working for our goals. Whether we succeed in the end or not, we will learn something, and what we learn will help us to become better, more confident people. Furthermore, if we give up, we have no chance of attaining our goals, but if we keep trying, there is always a chance that we will succeed one day.Thank{aspecialgift演讲稿}.

As we all know, fire is one of the most terrible killers in our modern society. We know that fire is mainly caused by smokers, followed by defective insulations and children playing with matches. In 2002 ,thousands of fire happened all over the country, of which 50 percent was caused by smokers who left cigarette-ends everywhere. Those who smoke should make sure that the cigarettes are stubbed out before being thrown away. Also, smoking should not be allowed in public places. 30 percent of fire was caused by defective insulation. Workers should know the importance of good insulation for people's lives. At homes we must pay special attention to electric wires and make sure that they are safe. 20 percent of fire are caused by children playing with matches. We should warn children of the danger of playing with matches.

No matter what type of the reason it was, there was one thing in common:carelessness. So if everyone in the country is careful enough, more fire could be avoided.

I stand before you today the representative of afamily in grief, in a country in mourning before aworld in shock.

We are all united not only in our desire to pay our respects to Diana but rather in our need to do so.For such was her extraordinary appeal that thetens of millions of people taking part in this service all over the world via television and radiowho never actually met her, feel that they too lost someone close to them in the early hours ofSunday morning. It is a more remarkable tribute to Diana than I can ever hope to offer hertoday.

Diana was the very essence of compassion, of duty, of style, of beauty. All over the world shewas a symbol of selfless humanity, a standard bearer for the rights of the truly downtrodden,a very British girl who transcend nationality, someone with a natural nobility who was classless and who proved in the last year that she needed no royal title to continue to generate her particular brand of magic.

Today is our chance to say "thank you" for the way you brightened our lives, even though God granted you but half a life. We will all feel cheated always that you were taken from us so young and yet we must learn to be grateful that you came along at all. Only now you are gone do we truly appreciate what we are now without and we want you to know that life without you is very, very difficult.

We have all despaired at our loss over the past weekand only the strength of the message you gave us through your years of giving has afforded us the strength to move forward.

There is a temptation to rush to canonize yourmemory. There is no need to do so. You stand tallenough as a human being of unique qualities not to need to be seen as a saint. Indeed, tosanctify your memory would be to miss out on the very core of your being, your wonderfullymischievous sense of humor, with a laugh that bent you double. Your joy for life transmittedwherever you took your smile and the sparkle in those unforgettable eyes. Your boundlessenergy which you could barely contain.

But your greatest gift was your intuition and it was a gift you used wisely. This is whatunderpinned all your other wonderful attributes and if we look to analyze what it was about youthat had such a wide appeal we find it in your instinctive feel for what was really important inall our lives.

Without your God-given sensitivity we would be immersed in greater ignorance at theanguish of AIDS and HIV sufferers, the plight of the homeless, the isolation of lepers, therandom destruction of landmines.

Diana explained to me once that it was her innermostfeeling of suffering that made it possible for her toconnect with her constituency of the rejected. Andhere we come to another truth about her. For all thestatus, the glamour, the applause, Diana remainedthroughout a very insecure person at heart, almostchildlike in her desire to do good for others so hecould release herself from deep feeling ofunworthiness of which her eating disorders were merly a symptom. Th world sensed this partof her character and cherished her for her vulnerability whilst admiring her for her honesty.

The last time I saw Diana was on July 1, her birthday in London, when typically she was nottaking time to celebrate her special day with friends but was guest of honor at a fundraisingcharity evening. She sparkled of course, but I would rather cherish the days I spent with herin March when she came to visit me and my children in our home in South Africa. I am proud ofthe fact that apart from when she was on public display meeting President Mandela wemanaged to contrive to stop the ever-present paparazzi from getting s single picture of her. That menat a lot to her.

These were days I will always treasure. It was as ifwe had been transported back to our childhood whenwe spent such an enormous amount of timetogether the two youngest in the family.Fundamentally she had not changed at all from thebig sister who mothered me as a baby, fought withme at school and endured those long train journeysbetween our parents' homes with me at weekends. Itis a tribute to her level-headedness and strength that despite the most bizarre-like lifeimaginable after her childhood, she remained intact, true to herself.

There is no doubt that she was looking for a new direction in her life at this time. She talkedendlessly of getting away from England, mainly because of the treatment that she received atthe hands of the newspapers. I don't think she ever understood why her genuinely goodintentions were sneered at by the media, why there appeared to be a permanent quest ontheir behalf to bring

her down. It is baffling.

My own and only explanation is that genuine goodness is threatening to those at the opposite end of the moral spectrum. It is a point to remember that of all the ironies about Diana, perhaps the greatest is this: a girl given the name of the ancient goddess of hunting was, in the end, the most hunted person of the modern age. She would want us today to pledge ourselves to protecting her beloved boys Williams and Harry from a similar fate and I dothis here, Diana, on your behalf. We will not allow them to suffer the anguish that used regularly to drive you to tearful depair.

And beyond that, on behalf of your mother and sisters, I pledge that we, your blood family, will do all we can to continue the imaginative and loving way in which you were steerling these two exceptional young men so that their souls are not simply immersed by duty and tradition but can sing openly as you planned.

We fully respect the heritage into which they have both been born and will always respect and encourage them in their royal role but we, like you, recognize the need for them, to experience as many different aspects of life as possible to arm them spiritually and emotionally for the years ahead. I know you would have expected nothing less from us.

William and Harry, we all cared desperately for you today. We are all chewed up with the sadness at the loss of a woman who was not even our mother. How great your suffering is, we cannot even imagine.

I would like to end by thanking God for the small mercies he has shown us at this dreadful time. For taking Diana at her most beautiful and radiant and when she had joy in her private life. About all we gibe thanks for the life of a woman I am so proud to be able to call my sister, the unique, the complex, the extraordinary and irreplaceble Diana whose beauty, both internal and external, will never be extinguished from our minds.
