Those who like to show off what they have might prefer to buy the things that last for long, However, I think that it is more beneficial to spend the money on a short-term pleasure. There are two major reasons: to release stress periodically and to broaden our human network.

First, the things for a temporary pleasure help us to ease stress. You might think that we can constantly feel satisfied, thus stress-free, by owning relatively permanent things. However, you could be stressed out more when you find your expensive car damaged by someone in a parking lot, when you misplace the ring and lose it, and when the price of the house you bought for your long-term comfort falls down due to the economic meltdown like the sub-prime mortgage one. On the contrary, by frequently dedicating money on a trip and a buffet, we can not only breathe fresh air but also feel full;therefore, we begin not to think of anything stressful. These days, a lot of people are stressed out due to the heavy burden of having to study or work hard and the competition among peers. So, a short-term enjoyment is like an oasis in a desert.

Moreover, as far as getting along with others is concerned, it is better to use money on a temporary pleasure. Traveling, eating out, and watching movies are the activities we can share with our friends. However, buying a house, jewelry, or a TV set is not something we can share. As society is getting more complex, human relationships are getting more intricate and at the same time economic situations have become stable,Therefore, the purpose of spending money has changed.
